How to Use This Guide

INNERGY has variables. Lots of them — so it isn't always easy to tell at a glance what a variable means, what it controls, how it interacts with other variables, and where it can be found. This glossary explains variable definitions, provides use cases, and indicates how most firms in the industry set up their libraries to get started.

Keep these tips in mind as you navigate this document:

• Use Ctrl+F to search — this is a long document and keyboard search is your best navigation tool.

• Create a desktop shortcut to this file — printing it is not recommended, as it will be revised and expanded over time.

• Orange headings = Global Group or Variable category name. The short code name (used in C# code) appears on the right.

• Bold orange values = typical entries. Bold blue values = the industry standard default — a great starting point for your library setup.

• Fixed values (text and Boolean variables) list all choices. Open-ended variables (Material, Operation, Number) show one or two examples only — you can set those to whatever your shop needs.

We want to hear from you! If more explanation of a variable or value would help, or you'd like to see something illustrated, let us know. This document only explains the library as it exists out of the box — everything can be tailored to meet your company's exact needs.

General Fabrication Group Overview

The General Fabrication group is where you set basic default values about your company's standard way of building things. Think of these values as how you do things most of the time. Individual values can be overridden within other variable groups or on specific products. As with any Global Group, you can set up multiple instances — for example, if your business has multiple production facilities, you'll likely want a separate General Fabrication instance for each one.

Type: Text (string)

All measurements in INNERGY are in Imperial units, but INNERGY can convert all measurements between Imperial and Metric. Your tenant will already be pre-set to one system. You can add the value for the other system if you need to switch between the two.

Note: Check with your Implementation Specialist before switching measurement systems — there are many considerations involved.

Imperial — All measurement units will be Imperial (inches, feet, gallons, etc.)

in house — All measurement units will be Metric (mm, m, liters, etc.)


100 P-lam Panel Source panelSourceP

Type: Text (string)

Determines, as a general rule, whether you make your own p-lam panels in the shop or buy them already laid up from a vendor. This is a general default — it can be overridden by variables in the 301 P-lam Global Group (see 101 and 102 of the P-lam Group).

buyout — P-lam panels are purchased from an external vendor as a single material. These panels are then cut to size, edgebanded, etc. within your shop to create other products.

in house — P-lam panels are created in the shop by adhering laminates to substrates. Laminates and cores are purchased separately, and shop labor is used to create the panel.


101 Sub 11/16" for 3/4" Cores, P-lam sub_1116_p

Type: Boolean

Determines whether you substitute 11/16" cores for 3/4" cores when fabricating typical ¾" p-lam cabinet components.

False — When fabricating 3/4" p-lam cabinet components, use a 3/4" core material when 3/4" panels are called for.

True — When fabricating 3/4" p-lam cabinet components, use an 11/16" core material when 3/4" panels are called for.


Edge Type Variables

110 Liner Edge Type edgeTypeL

Type: Text (string)

Determines the type of edge used for shelving in typical cabinet interiors. When the cabinet interior is "typical" (generally melamine or cabinet liner rather than p-lam or veneer), this is the material used as a shelf edge. This value is a general default and can be overridden in the Cabinet Fabrication group by gg.cabFabNRG.edgeTypeLiner_NRG.

hdwd — Apply a hardwood edge. The hardwood species will be determined by the instance of "304 Hardwood" applied to the product.

laminate — Apply a laminate edge. The laminate will be determined by the instance of "301 Laminate" applied to the product.

pvc — Apply a PVC edge. The PVC edge will be determined by the instance of "303 Cab. Int. / Substrate" applied to the product.

veneer — Apply a veneer edge — strips of veneer cut into typical 8 to 12-foot lengths (not roll tape). Most commonly used for exotic species. The veneer species will be determined by the instance of "302 Veneer" applied to the product.

wd tape — Apply a wood tape edge from a roll. The wood tape will be determined by the instance of "302 Veneer" applied to the product.


111 Liner Edge Style edgeStyleL

Type: Text (string)

Determines the style of edge for shelving within cabinets that have typical interiors. Generally think of this as standard (.018" or .5mm) edge vs. 3mm edge, though "thick" can also be configured to use 5mm. The actual materials applied are specified in other Global Groups: 301 Laminate, 302 Veneer, and 303 Hardwood.

standard — Use an edge of standard thickness (generally 0.5mm or 0.018").

thick — Use a thick edge (generally 3mm).


120 P-lam Edge Type edgeTypeP

Type: Text (string)

Determines whether you use laminate edges or PVC edges on the edges of p-lam products. See also: 110 Liner Edge Type, which controls edges at typical cabinet interiors.

laminate — Apply p-lam edges to p-lam products.

pvc — Apply PVC edges to p-lam products.


121 P-lam Edge Style edgeStyleP

Type: Text (string)

Determines the style of edge used for p-lam products. Generally think of this as standard (.018" or .5mm) edge vs. 3mm edge, though "thick" can also be configured to use 5mm. The actual materials applied are specified in Global Group 301 Laminate. Can be overridden in the "101 Cabinet Fabrication" Global Group.

standard — Use an edge of standard thickness (generally 0.5mm or 0.018").

122 P-lam Edge Source edgeSourceP

Type: Text (string)

Determines how you source the material used for p-lam edges. This value can be overridden within 301 Laminate.

Note: If variable "120 P-lam Edge Type" is set to "pvc," this variable has no effect — PVC edging on a roll is assumed to be a vendor purchase.

buyout — P-lam edge strips are purchased from a vendor.

in house — P-lam edge strips are manufactured in the shop by slicing sheets of p-lam to the required width.


Veneer Variables

Determines whether you make your own veneer panels in the shop or buy them already laid up from a vendor.

buyout — Veneer panels are purchased from a vendor.

in house — Veneer faces and backers are adhered to a core material in the shop to create veneer panels for wall paneling, cabinets, and other products.


201 Sub. 11/16" for 3/4" Cores, Veneer sub_1116_v

Type: Boolean

Determines whether you substitute 11/16" cores for 3/4" cores when fabricating typical ¾" veneer cabinet components.

False — When fabricating 3/4" veneer cabinet components, use a 3/4" core material when 3/4" panels are called for.

True — When fabricating 3/4" veneer cabinet components, use an 11/16" core material when 3/4" panels are called for.


202 Veneer Face Source venFaceSourceGen

Type: Text (string)

Determines, as a general rule, whether you make your own veneer faces in the shop or buy leaves already sewn into a face from a vendor.

Note: This variable does not apply if you buy veneer panels from a vendor. It only matters when you lay up your own veneer panels.

buyout — Veneer faces are purchased from a vendor.

in house — Veneer faces are created in the shop by stitching veneer leaves.
