Prerequisites
Before you begin, confirm the following:
You have import permission assigned to your INNERGY user account.
You have access to the Company Profile > Facilities area for the facility where bins will be created.
You have Microsoft Excel or a compatible spreadsheet application installed on your computer.
The warehouses that will contain your new bins already exist within the facility.
Note: If you do not have import permission, the import buttons described in this article will not be visible. Contact your INNERGY administrator to request access.
The Three Import Buttons
When import permission is enabled, three buttons appear on the facility details page, above the warehouses grid:
Button | Purpose |
Download Bins Template | Downloads the .xlsx template used for bulk imports |
Import Bins | Uploads the completed template and creates bins in INNERGY |
Import Bins Log | Displays a historical record of all import attempts |
Hovering over the Import Bins button displays a tooltip with abbreviated step-by-step instructions for quick reference.
Step 1: Download the Bins Template
Navigate to the Company Profile > Facilities details page for the facility where you want to create bins.
Click Download Bins Template.
Locate the downloaded .xlsx file on your computer and open it.
The template contains a single sheet named Bins with three columns: Warehouse, Bin Name, and Description.
Step 2: Complete the Template
In the Warehouse column, click any cell to reveal the dropdown menu. The dropdown is pre-populated with all warehouses belonging to the selected facility.
Select the appropriate warehouse for each bin.
In the Bin Name column, enter a unique name for each bin.
In the Description column, enter a short description of the bin's purpose. Note: this column is optional.
Save the completed file.
Best Practice: Use the Warehouse dropdown rather than typing warehouse names manually. This eliminates typos and ensures the import will validate successfully.
Step 3: Import the Completed Template
Return to the facility details page in INNERGY.
Click Import Bins.
Select your completed .xlsx file when prompted.
Wait for INNERGY to validate the file.
If validation succeeds, bins are created automatically in their respective warehouses. If validation fails, no bins are created and you can review the error details in the import log.
Step 4: Review the Import Log
Every import attempt — successful or failed — is recorded in the import log.
To view the log:
Click Import Bins Log on the facility details page.
Review the dialog, which displays the following fields for each entry:
File Name — the name of the imported file
Status — success or failure
Errors / Results — validation messages or confirmation details
Created By — the user who initiated the import
Created Date — the timestamp of the import
Use the log to confirm successful imports, troubleshoot failures, and maintain an audit trail of bin creation activity.
Troubleshooting
Issue | Cause | Resolution |
Import buttons are not visible | User does not have import permission | Contact your INNERGY administrator to request access |
Import fails on validation | Invalid warehouse name, missing bin name, or formatting error | Open the import log, review the error details, correct the file, and re-import |
Warehouse dropdown is empty | No warehouses exist in the selected facility | Create at least one warehouse in the facility before downloading the template |
Downloaded template is outdated | Warehouses were added or removed after the template was downloaded | Download a fresh template before each import |
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I import bins for multiple warehouses in a single file? A: Yes. Each row in the template can specify a different warehouse, as long as all warehouses belong to the same facility.
Q: What happens if a single row in my file has an error? A: If validation fails for any row, the entire import is rejected and no bins are created. Review the import log, correct the file, and re-import.
Q: Is there a limit to how many bins I can import at once? A: There is no enforced row limit, but for best performance, we recommend testing with a small batch first before importing large files.
Q: Can I edit existing bins through this import process? A: No. The import feature is designed to create new bins only. Existing bins must be edited through the standard bin management interface.
Q: Who can view the import log? A: Any user with import permission can view the import log for the facilities they have access to.
