How to Use AI Product Detection in Takeoff

Learn how to use AI-powered product detection in the Takeoff New Plan Viewer to automatically recognize products from drawings and convert suggestions into real products with one click.

AI Product Detection uses artificial intelligence to automatically recognize products directly from your drawings in the Takeoff New Plan Viewer. The AI suggests products based on what it detects in the selected elevation — currently optimized for cabinets — reducing manual placement and speeding up your takeoff process.

Prerequisites

  • You must be using the New Plan Viewer. AI Product Detection is not available in the Classic viewer.

  • Area Products must be set up in your palette before running detection. The AI matches detections against your palette to suggest the best-fit products.

How to Run AI Product Detection

  1. Open the New Plan Viewer in Takeoff.

  2. Select an elevation on your sheet.

  3. Click the AI button to start product detection.

  4. Review the suggested products — each appears as a ghost shape (smart placeholder) with ranked suggestions.

  5. Approve the suggestions you want to keep. Each approved suggestion is converted into a real product in your takeoff instantly.

Approval Modes

You can choose how the AI behaves after you approve a suggestion:

  • Draw & Draw (default): After approving a suggestion, the tool immediately moves to the next detection. Use this for rapid bulk approval.

  • Draw & Edit: After approving a suggestion, the tool enters edit mode so you can review and adjust the product before moving on. Use this for more careful, detail-oriented work.

You can switch between modes at any point during your detection session.

Important Notes

  • Suggested products are placeholders only — you remain in full control and can reject any suggestion before confirming.

  • AI detection is currently optimized for cabinets. Detection accuracy for other product types may vary.

  • If a detected area is too large, try selecting a smaller elevation or region of the sheet.
