How long does onboarding take?
Company setup alone can take as little as an hour. With no payroll history to migrate, most companies are fully onboarded within about a week. If historical payroll data needs to be migrated, plan for at least two weeks.
Businesses switching at the start of a new calendar year before any current-year payroll has run tend to have the fastest, simplest onboarding.
What are the phases of onboarding?
Onboarding moves through four sequential phases:
1. Your company completes setup and tax information.
2. Your workers complete their own onboarding via an emailed link.
3. If you have already paid workers this calendar year with a prior provider, we migrate that payroll history.
4. Compliance verification runs in the background.
What should I gather before my kickoff call?
Have the following information ready before your kickoff call:

● Legal and mailing addresses
● Business structure
● Work-location addresses

● Account and routing number for payroll funding

● Federal deposit schedule (if known)
State & Local Tax Information
● State Income Tax withholding account

Worker Setup
What worker information do I need?
Gather the following for every worker paid this calendar year — both active and already terminated:
● Full legal name
● Home address
● Date of birth
● Social Security Number (SSN)
● Contact information
● Hire date
● Compensation details
● Worker classification (W-2 employee or 1099 contractor)
● Federal and state tax withholding elections
● Direct deposit or preferred payment method
● PTO balances (if tracked)
● Benefit and deduction elections
Why do I need to include terminated workers?
Terminated workers who were paid this year still need to be included so they receive an accurate W-2 or 1099 at year end.
How do my workers get set up?
Workers can be entered manually or invited to complete their own onboarding through an emailed, mobile-friendly self-onboarding link. The link walks each worker through entering their address, tax setup, and preferred payment method.
What do the worker readiness statuses mean?
A worker cannot be paid until their profile shows a "Ready" status. If something changes later — such as a home address update — their status may temporarily shift to "Partially Ready" or "Not Ready" until the update is resolved.
Account & Bank Setup
What do the account statuses mean?
Your Employer Profile tracks two independent statuses:
Account Standing Compliance State
Status | What It Means |
New Account | Account has been created and is pending review. |
In Review | INNERGY is verifying your account information. |
Active | Account is in good standing — payroll can run. |
Conditional | Account can run payroll with certain restrictions in place. |
Restricted | Payroll is paused until a compliance issue is resolved. |
Rejected | Account could not be verified. Contact support. |
Pay Worker Readiness Operational State
Status | What It Means |
Onboarding | Company setup is in progress. |
Implementation | Data and history are being loaded. |
Ready | You are fully set up and can run payroll. |
Only Active and Conditional accounts can run payroll. Only Ready employers can run payroll. Both statuses must allow it.
How is my bank account verified?
You can verify your bank account instantly through a secure bank-login connection, or manually using micro-deposits. Either way, you will need online banking access to complete verification.
