Overview
The Budget Products tab is the central hub for reviewing all products assigned to a project budget. It organizes line items by physical location, displays a full pricing breakdown across drafting, fabrication, and install, and provides robust filtering and view controls so your team can work efficiently at any stage of the project lifecycle.
How to Access Budget Products
Open any active project from the Projects list.
Click the Budget tab in the top project navigation bar.
In the sub-navigation row that appears, click Products.
Navigation path: Projects → [Your Project] → Budget → Products
Page Layout
When you land on the Budget Products view, you'll see three key areas:
Project Status Bar (top) — displays real-time project health indicators including Status, Workflow stage, Contract Pending status, Checklist completion, and contract dollar values (Original Contract Value, Current Contract Value, and Work Orders Value).
⚠️ Note: If the Work Orders Value appears highlighted in red, this signals that committed work order costs are approaching your contract ceiling. Review immediately.
Budget Products Grid (center) — the main data table showing all products organized by location group.
Grid Controls (top-right) — tools for collapsing groups, changing views, and exporting data.
Understanding the Grid
Location Groups
Products in the Budget Products view are organized by Location — the physical area, room, or zone within the project where each product will be installed, if you group the grid by location. Then it appears as a collapsible group header, with its associated product line items nested underneath.
Common location group examples:
Floor-level zones (e.g., L7 Restrooms, L8 Market, L8 Coffee)
Functional spaces (e.g., Breakout, Hallway, Security Podiums)
Special origin groups (e.g., Project Origin: RFCA3 - Addendum)(Your Estimating team should be determining Location, Building, and Zone at the bid level to make this easier to visualize once you win the project.
Column Definitions
Column | Description |
Products | The product name or description assigned to the project budget |
Total Drafting Price | Cost for design/drafting labor associated with the product |
Total Fabrication Price | Manufacturing and production cost |
Total Install Price | On-site labor and installation cost |
Grand Total Price | Sum of Drafting + Fabrication + Install — the all-in cost per item |
Totals Row
The bottom row of the grid displays aggregate totals across all visible products:
Item count — total number of product line items
Total Fabrication Price — sum of all fabrication costs
Total Install Price — sum of all install costs
Grand Total Price — full all-in budget commitment for products
Best Practice: Regularly compare the Grand Total against your Current Contract Value to ensure alignment throughout the project lifecycle.
Grid Controls and Features
Show Accepted / Show All
Located at the top of the grid:
Show Accepted — filters the view to display only formally accepted products. Use this to assess locked-in scope.
Show All — displays the full product list, including pending and draft items.
Expand / Collapse Groups
Located in the top-right corner of the grid:
Collapse Groups — compresses all location groups to header-only rows, giving you a high-level summary of locations and their totals without the individual line items.
Expand Groups — expands all groups to show full product detail.
Tip: Use Collapse Groups when presenting a budget overview to stakeholders. Expand Groups when doing a detailed line-item review.
Column Search and Filtering
Each column in the Budget Products grid has an active search field. Type into any column's search bar to filter products by that attribute — useful on large projects with many locations and hundreds of line items.
Default View / Custom Views
The Default View dropdown (top-right) allows you to switch between saved column configurations. INNERGY supports named views so different roles (Project Managers, Estimators, Shop Managers) can each access the column layout most relevant to their work.
Create Filter
At the bottom of the grid, the Create Filter option allows you to build and save complex multi-column filter logic. Saved filters persist across sessions and can be reused on future visits to the same project.
Pagination
At the bottom of the grid, choose how many items to display per page: 25 / 50 / 100. For large projects, increasing this number reduces the need to page through records.
Related Budget Sub-Tabs
The Budget Products view is one of several sub-tabs under the Budget module. The full set includes:
Tab | Purpose |
Products | All budgeted products organized by location |
Materials | Raw material line items |
Estimated Materials | Pre-bid or estimated material quantities |
Material Approvals | Approval workflow for material selections |
Labor | Labor hours and cost by trade |
Distributed Costs | Shared/overhead costs allocated across products |
Overheads | Project-level overhead entries |
BOM | Bill of Materials breakdown |
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why do some location groups show $0.00 with no items? A: This is expected behavior. Locations are often created during project setup before products are assigned. As the estimating or design process progresses, items will populate under those groups.
Q: What does it mean when the Work Orders Value is in red? A: Red indicates that the value of committed work orders is approaching or exceeding the contract ceiling. Review your Work Orders and Contract sections immediately to assess exposure.
Q: Can I add or edit products directly from this view? A: The Budget Products view is primarily a read and review interface. To add or modify products, use the Alternates option in Takeoff or Change Orders for Projects.
Q: How do I save a custom column layout? A: Use the Default View dropdown to access view management. Create and name a new view with your preferred column configuration so it can be recalled anytime.
