Overview
A Work Order in INNERGY is a unit of work within a project. It groups related products and tasks together and moves through a workflow (Drafting, Production, or Installation) so your team can plan, track, and execute the work efficiently. Every project can have multiple work orders — one for each phase or logical grouping of work.
The Three Types of Work Orders
Each work order is assigned one of three types, which determines which Kanban workflow it follows and which labor items can be applied to it:
Drafting Work Orders — Cover the design and planning stages of a project. They move through the Drafting Kanban, and only labor items marked for drafting in the Labor Library can be applied.
Production Work Orders — Cover manufacturing and assembly. They move through the Production Kanban, and only production-specific labor items apply.
Installation Work Orders — Cover delivery, installation, and on-site setup. They move through the Installation Kanban, and only installation-specific labor items apply.
What a Work Order Tracks
Products — The items being built or installed for this work order.
Budget (Materials & Labor) — The planned cost for materials and labor assigned to this work order.
BOM — The bill of materials converted from the budget for purchasing.
Critical Date — The target completion date that drives scheduling and Bottleneck Report visibility.
Workflow Step — The current stage in the Drafting, Production, or Installation Kanban.
% Installed — Tracks installation progress on Installation Work Orders.
Shop Drawings — Design files uploaded directly to the work order.
History — A full audit trail of changes made to the work order.
Custom Fields — Additional fields configured by your organization.
How Work Orders Relate to Projects
Work orders always belong to a project. They inherit the project's customer, contract, and budget context. Multiple work orders can exist on a single project — for example, one drafting work order for design, several production work orders split by product type, and one installation work order for field work.
Navigating to Work Orders
You can access work orders two ways:
From within a Project — Open the project and select the Work Orders tab to see all work orders for that job.
From the Work Orders Grid — Navigate to Project Management > Work Orders in the left-hand sidebar to view all work orders across all projects.
