Creating and Updating Material Schedules

A step-by-step guide to assigning materials and bandings to your products in DESIGN.

A Material Schedule defines which materials and bandings are assigned to the part types in your products. When you assign a material in a schedule, it applies to every part of that type in your design, so you can control your product’s materials from one place instead of editing parts one at a time.

Material Schedules can be saved in two scopes:

Project – available only in the current project.

Global – reusable across all projects.

Open the Material Schedule panel

1. Open the Material Schedule editor from the panel menu (or run the MATERIALSCHEDULE command).

2. At the top of the panel, use the Project / Global toggle to choose where your schedule is saved.

Note When you are in Global scope, the panel shows the banner “You are editing Global scope” so you always know which library you are changing.

Create a Material Schedule

1. In the Material Schedule panel, click the Create Material Schedule button (the +).

2. In the Create Material Schedule dialog, fill in:

Name – a name for the schedule (required).

Schedule Type – the type of product the schedule applies to (required). This determines which part types appear in the schedule and cannot be changed later.

Description – an optional note.

3. Click Create.

The new schedule opens automatically, ready to edit.

Update a Material Schedule

1. Select the schedule you want to edit from the schedule dropdown at the top of the panel.

2. Each part type appears as its own section. For each part type, set the materials you need:

Material – the default material for that part type.

Default Banding – the default banding material for that part type’s edges.

Bandings – assign banding materials for where this part connects to other specific part types.

3. Click Update to save your changes.

A confirmation appears: “Material Schedule has been updated.”

Assign a material by size

Use By Size when a part type should use a different material at certain dimensions.

1. In a part type section, open By Size.

2. Click Add Row.

3. Enter the Dimension and select the Material for that size.

4. Repeat for any additional sizes, then click Update.

Note Rows missing a dimension or a material are incomplete and will not be saved. If you click Update with incomplete rows, you’ll be asked whether to continue — choosing Continue saves the schedule and discards the incomplete rows.

Update several part types at once

1. Check the box on each part type section you want to change.

2. Set the material or banding once — the change applies to every checked part type.

3. Click Reset to clear your selections when finished.

Filter the list to selected parts

To focus on specific parts, select two or more parts of different types (from the same schedule type) in the model space. The part list filters to show only those types. When fewer than two parts are selected, the panel shows “Select parts on model space to filter.”

Share a schedule between scopes

Export a Project schedule to Global to reuse it in other projects.

Import a Global schedule into your current Project.

Use the Export and Import buttons at the top of the panel. You can save the schedule as new or override an existing one of the same name.

Delete a Material Schedule

Select the schedule, then click the Delete (trash) button at the top of the panel.
