How the Engineering Sync association Multiplier turns engineered square footage into the number of sheets to buy.
In Engineering Sync, an association tells INNERGY which purchasing material to buy when your engineering or estimating software reports a quantity. When the engineered quantity is in square feet but you buy material in full sheets, the association Multiplier can convert square footage into a sheet count automatically.
Good to know: You set the Multiplier once per association. INNERGY then converts that square-foot quantity into sheets for you for that material only — no manual math on each project.
What the Multiplier does
The Multiplier is the number of purchasing units that equals one unit of the engineered quantity. For sheet goods, it is the number of sheets in one square foot, so multiplying the square footage by the Multiplier returns the number of sheets.
Find the Multiplier with one division:
Multiplier = 1 ÷ (square feet in one sheet)
Then INNERGY applies it to the engineered quantity:
Sheets = Square footage × Multiplier
Worked example — a 4' × 8' sheet
A 4' × 8' sheet contains 32 square feet. To find the Multiplier, divide 1 by 32:
1 ÷ 32 = 0.03125
Enter 0.03125 as the Multiplier. Now any square-foot quantity converts to sheets. For 32 square feet:
32 × 0.03125 = 1 sheet
For 320 square feet, INNERGY returns 10 sheets (320 × 0.03125 = 10).
Multipliers for standard sheet sizes
Use the value from the column that matches the sheet size you purchase. Each Multiplier is simply 1 divided by the sheet's square footage.
Sheet size | Square feet per sheet | Multiplier (1 ÷ SF) |
3' × 12' | 36 | 0.027778 |
4' × 8' | 32 | 0.031250 |
4' × 10' | 40 | 0.025000 |
4' × 12' | 48 | 0.020833 |
5' × 8' | 40 | 0.025000 |
5' × 10' | 50 | 0.020000 |
5' × 12' | 60 | 0.016667 |
Tip: If a size is not listed, calculate it the same way: multiply the sheet's width by its length in feet to get the square footage, then divide 1 by that number. For example, a 6' × 12' sheet is 72 SF, so the Multiplier is 1 ÷ 72 = 0.013889.
How to enter the Multiplier on an association
On the Engineering Sync page, find the material you buy in sheets.
Select the three-dot menu on that row, then choose Associate (or Update association if one already exists).
In the Material Association Grid, select the INNERGY material and Common UoM you purchase in sheets.
In the Multiplier column, enter the value for your sheet size (for example, 0.03125 for a 4' × 8' sheet).
Select Associate to save.
The converted sheet quantity is not shown on the Material Association Grid itself. To see and confirm it, select Update Project or Append Project (or Update WO / Append WO for a work order). This opens the materials popup, where the converted sheet quantities appear for you to verify — use Round Up or Round Down if needed — before you select Save.
Check your result
To confirm a Multiplier is right, multiply it by the square footage of one sheet. The result should equal 1:
4' × 8' → 32 × 0.03125 = 1
4' × 10' → 40 × 0.025 = 1
5' × 12' → 60 × 0.016667 = 1
If the result is not 1, recheck the sheet's square footage and the division.
Heads up: Sheet counts can come back as fractions (for example, 1.5 sheets). Round up to whole sheets when purchasing, since material is bought in full sheets.
Quick checklist
Find the square feet in one sheet (width × length in feet).
Multiplier = 1 ÷ that square footage.
On the row's three-dot menu, choose Associate or Update association, then enter the Multiplier in the Material Association Grid.
Select Update or Append to open the popup and confirm the converted sheet quantities.
Verify: square feet per sheet × Multiplier = 1.
Round fractional sheet counts up when adding to BoM’s.
