Creating Model Spaces

Set up a workspace in DESIGN — either from a Takeoff plan or as a blank space.

A Model Space is the workspace in DESIGN where you build your floors, walls, and products. You can create one in two ways: from a Takeoff plan, which brings in an existing sheet as an underlay to trace and model against, or as a blank space you build from scratch.

Good to know: Import Takeoff Plan controls which path you take. Choose a sheet to start from a Takeoff plan, or leave it empty to create a blank Model Space.

Open the Model Spaces panel

1. In the left sidebar, open the Model Spaces panel.

2. Click Create at the top of the panel to open the Create Model Space window.

Create a Model Space from a Takeoff plan

Use this when you want to model on top of an existing blueprint or shop drawing brought over from Takeoff.

1. Open the Import Takeoff Plan dropdown and select a sheet. Sheets are grouped by Blueprint and Shop Drawing.

2. Check the Name. It fills in automatically from the sheet you chose — edit it if you’d like a different name.

3. Add a Description if you want one. This is optional.

4. Confirm the Scale. It is set automatically to match the selected sheet. Change it only if needed.

5. Leave Import Locations (if available) turned on to bring in locations from the sheet, or turn it off to skip them.

6. Click Create. The new Model Space opens in its own tab, ready to work in.

Note: Scale is not set. If you see this message, the sheet has no scale yet. Go to Takeoff, set the scale on the sheet, then create the Model Space again.

Create a blank Model Space

Use this when you want to start from an empty workspace with no underlay.

1. Leave Import Takeoff Plan empty — do not select a sheet.

2. Enter a Name for the Model Space. This is required.

3. Add a Description if you want one. This is optional.

4. Set the Scale, or leave the default of 1:1.

5. Click Create. The blank Model Space opens in its own tab.

Working with your Model Spaces

Every Model Space you create is listed in the Model Spaces panel. From there you can:

Open a Model Space by clicking its name, or open it in a new tab with the new-tab icon.

Clone a Model Space to make a copy using the copy icon.

Delete a Model Space with the trash icon. Use the Active / Inactive toggle to view deleted spaces and Restore them if needed.

Quick checklist

• From a Takeoff plan: select a sheet under Import Takeoff Plan, confirm name and scale, then Create.

• Blank: leave Import Takeoff Plan empty, enter a Name, then Create.

• New Model Spaces open automatically in their own tab.
