Placing a Wall in the Model Space

How to draw walls on a Model Space plan and set their dimensions, position, and joins.

A wall is the vertical surface that holds your products and underlays inside a Model Space. You draw walls on the plan, and DESIGN builds them with the height and thickness you set. Once a wall is in place, you can attach cabinets and other products to its face, add openings, and switch to Wall Elevation to work on it head-on.

Good to know: You draw walls in the Plan view of a Model Space. Choose a drawing tool, click to set points on the plan, and a wall is created along the line you draw. You can fine-tune every wall afterward in the wall properties panel.

Before you start

Open the Model Space you want to work in and make sure you are in the Plan view. Walls are drawn on the floor plan, then viewed in 3D or in Wall Elevation as needed.

Choose a drawing tool

DESIGN gives you several tools for laying out walls. Pick the one that matches the shape you need, then click on the plan to place your points.

Single Line

One straight wall

Click a start point, then an end point. One wall is drawn between the two.

Polyline

Connected runs of wall

Click each corner in turn. A wall is drawn between every pair of points, so you can lay out a whole room without stopping.

Rectangle

Four walls at once

Click one corner, then the opposite corner. DESIGN draws all four walls of the rectangle for you.

Arc

A curved wall

Set the start and end points, then pull out the curve to the depth you want.

Single Line

1. Select the Single Line tool.

2. Click on the plan where the wall should start.

3. Move the cursor and click where the wall should end. Type a length while drawing to set the wall to an exact size.

Polyline

1. Select the Polyline tool.

2. Click each corner of your layout in order. A connected wall is added with every click.

3. Press Esc or Enter to finish the run.

Rectangle

1. Select the Rectangle tool.

2. Click one corner of the room.

3. Click the opposite corner. All four walls are created at once.

Arc

1. Select the Arc tool.

2. Click the start and end points of the curve.

3. Move the cursor to set the arc height (how far the wall bows out), then click to place it.

Tip: As you draw, type a value to set an exact length or angle instead of clicking by eye. This is the fastest way to lay out a wall to a known dimension.

Set wall details

Select a wall to open its properties panel, where you can name it and adjust its size, position, and how it meets neighboring walls. The panel is grouped into sections:

Basic

Give the wall a Name and Description so it is easy to identify on drawings and in the model tree.

Dimensions

Set the Height – how tall the wall is – and the Thickness – how deep it is. These control the solid wall DESIGN builds and the space available for products.

Position

Place the wall precisely using its Length, its start point (From X, From Z) and its end point (To X, To Z). For a curved wall, set the Arc Height.

Join

Where walls meet, set the Start Angle and End Angle so the corners close cleanly.

Note: Most walls join automatically when you draw them with the Polyline or Rectangle tools. Use the Join angles only when you need to adjust how a corner is mitered.

View and adjust your walls

After a wall is placed you can keep working with it:

• Switch to 3D to see the walls in space, or Wall Elevation to work on a single wall face head-on.

• Drag a wall or its end points on the plan to move or resize it.

• Select a wall and edit any value in the properties panel for an exact result.

• Attach products to a wall face once the wall is in place.

Quick checklist

• Open the Model Space and switch to the Plan view.

• Choose a tool: Single Line, Polyline, Rectangle, or Arc.

• Click on the plan to draw the wall (type a length for an exact size).

• Select the wall and set Height and Thickness.

• Adjust Position and Join values as needed, then add products.
