Bids and the Takeoff Application work hand-in-hand in INNERGY. A Bid is the container that holds your estimate for an Opportunity, and Takeoff is the environment where you actually build that estimate. Understanding the connection between the two helps you navigate the estimating process efficiently.
The Relationship
Every Bid has a corresponding Takeoff environment. When you create a Bid inside an Opportunity, INNERGY creates a dedicated Takeoff workspace for that Bid. This means:
Each Bid has its own independent Takeoff — products, sheets, quantities, and costs are all stored at the Bid level.
If you clone a Bid, the Takeoff data is copied along with it, giving you a starting point for a revised estimate.
Multiple Bids on the same Opportunity each have their own separate Takeoff, so you can run parallel estimates without them affecting each other.
Opening Takeoff from a Bid
Open an Opportunity from the Kanban board.
Navigate to the Bids tab.
For the primary (Current) Bid, click the three dots to the right and then Open Takeoff.
For any non-primary Bid, use the steps as above.
If you see a Ready Takeoff button instead of Open Takeoff, click it first. This initializes the Takeoff environment for that Bid.
What Happens in Takeoff Feeds Back to the Bid
All work done inside the Takeoff Application — placing products on plan sheets, adjusting material costs, setting labor rates, applying distributed costs — is reflected in the Bid's budget. The Budget tab on the Bid displays a summary of the estimate built in Takeoff, including:
Total product costs
Material quantities and costs
Labor costs
Overhead costs
Distributed costs
Overall bid summary and margin
The Current Bid and Its Role
Of all the Bids on an Opportunity, one is designated as the Current Bid (marked with a star). The Current Bid is significant because:
It is the Bid used when converting the Opportunity to a Project.
It represents the most recent estimate being actively pursued.
Its Takeoff is the primary working environment for your estimating team.
Tip: If you need to revise your estimate significantly, create a new Bid rather than overwriting the existing Takeoff. This preserves a history of all estimate revisions.
