Overview
Work Order Workflows are one of the most important configurations in INNERGY. They drive your Bottleneck Report - the real-time view of where every Work Order is in your production process. INNERGY is Work Order driven, meaning every Project is broken down into Work Orders to help manage delivery, production, and installation.
Work through this guide to set up your Drafting, Production, and Installation Workflows before you begin creating Projects.

Step 2 - Work Order Breakout Example
Before configuring your Workflows, it helps to understand how Work Orders are typically structured within a Project. Below is a real-world example using a Breakroom Project:
Drafting Work Order
• One Drafting Work Order is created for all products in the breakroom.
◦ Drafting WO Name: Breakroom
Production Work Orders
• Three Production Work Orders are created based on material type and outsourcing:
◦ Breakroom - Upper & Tall Cabinets (grey plam)
◦ Breakroom - Base Cabinets (black plam)
◦ Breakroom - Stone Tops (outsourced)
Installation Work Order
• One Installation Work Order is created for all products in the breakroom. There is no Stone Installation Work Order because the outsourced supplier will handle that installation.
◦ Installation WO Name: Cabinets

Think about how your shop naturally breaks down projects before building your Workflow steps. The names and structure you choose here will appear on every Work Order, Bottleneck Report, and scheduling view your team uses every day.
Step 3 - Drafting Work Order Workflow Setup
Navigate to Configuration > Workflow > Drafting. Some companies will not use the Drafting Workflow. Watch the Lunch & Learn on the Drafting Workflow to help decide if it is right for your organization. If you decide not to use it, set it to Inactive.

Complete the following setup items for the Drafting Workflow:
◦ Select your Workflow Calculation Method.
◦ Enter Step Names.
◦ Enter Milestone Names.
◦ Set your Critical Milestone (this should NOT be your last milestone).
◦ Set the other Milestones you would like to use.
◦ Set the Type for each Step (at least 1 step must have the Staged Step Type).
◦ Set the Average Step Length.
◦ Create Checklists as needed.
◦ Enter the Step Owner.
◦ Enter a Description of what should happen in each step.
◦ Optional: Set up Secondary Workflows if you intend to use them.
Step 3 - Configuration > Workflow showing Drafting Workflow setup
Step 4 - Production Work Order Workflow Setup
Navigate to Configuration > Workflow > Production. The Production Workflow is the most important Workflow in INNERGY - it directly drives the Bottleneck Report and production scheduling.

Complete the following setup items for the Production Workflow:
◦ Select your Workflow Calculation Method.
◦ Enter Step Names.
◦ Enter Milestone Names.
◦ Set your Critical Milestone (this should NOT be your last milestone).
◦ Set the other Milestones you would like to use.
◦ Set the Type for each Step (at least 1 step must have the Staged Step Type).
◦ Set the Average Step Length.
◦ Create Checklists as needed.
◦ Enter the Step Owner.
◦ Enter a Description of what should happen in each step.
◦ Optional: Set up Secondary Workflows if you intend to use them.
◦ Set your Shipment Milestone.

Step 5 - Installation Work Order Workflow Setup
Navigate to Configuration > Workflow > Installation. If your company does not do or manage installation, you can set this Workflow to Inactive.

Optional Features
The following steps are OPTIONAL. The Bottleneck Report and core project management will work without them, but they provide additional visibility and flexibility for some organizations.
OPTIONAL - Step 6: Project Workflow
The Project Workflow is NOT required. The Bottleneck Report is driven from the Work Order Workflows - but some companies like to use the Project Workflow to track the overall status of the Project at a higher level.
If you choose to use it, complete the following setup items for the Project Workflow:
◦ Enter the Step Name.
◦ Enter Milestone Name.
◦ Select your Production Complete Steps.
◦ Enter the Step Owner.
◦ Create Checklists as needed.
◦ Enter a Description of what should happen in each step.
◦ Optional: Set up Secondary Workflows if you intend to use them.
OPTIONAL - Step 7: Secondary Workflows
Secondary Workflows allow you to create alternate Workflow paths within a Work Order type. They are most common for Production Work Orders where certain job types follow a different process than the standard one.
Secondary workflows are configured at the Work Order type level — not on individual products. When setting up a Work Order type (for example, your Production Work Order), you define which secondary workflow paths are available for that type. From there, users assign a specific work order to a secondary workflow when creating or editing that work order.
Products are not tied to workflows. Products are assigned to Work Orders — and INNERGY links related work orders automatically behind the scenes. The workflow path (primary or secondary) is determined by the Work Order type, not by the products included in it.
When a work order is created, users can select a secondary workflow path if one is needed. For example, a production work order for outsourced stone tops would be assigned to the "Outsourced" secondary workflow, while standard cabinet work orders follow the primary workflow path. Both work orders can exist within the same project.

Note
It is perfectly fine to begin with just your primary Workflows. You can always add Secondary Workflows later once you have been running in the system and have a clearer picture of where alternate paths are needed.
