Customizing, Saving, and Updating the Workspace

A step-by-step guide to arranging the DESIGN workspace and saving it as a reusable layout.

Your workspace is the arrangement of panels, tabs, and editors you see on screen in DESIGN. You can rearrange it to match how you work, then save that arrangement as a named workspace so you can return to it any time.

Once you have saved one or more workspaces, you can switch between them from the status bar — handy for moving between different kinds of work, such as drawing, takeoff, and review.

Good to know: There is no separate “edit mode.” Any change you make to the on-screen arrangement becomes part of your current workspace and is ready to be saved or updated.

User vs. Global workspaces

Workspaces can be saved in two scopes. Choose the scope when you save:

User – private to your account. Use this for your personal layout.

Global – shared with everyone in your company. Use this to set a company standard.

Note: Saving, updating, or deleting a Global workspace requires the appropriate permission. If you don’t see the Save as Global option, contact your administrator.

Customizing your workspace

Arrange the workspace so the tools you use most are within easy reach.

1. Open or close panels and editors until the layout shows only the views you need.

2. Drag a tab to dock it in a different area of the screen, or drag a panel edge to resize it.

3. Group related tabs together so you can move between them quickly.

Saving your workspace

When the workspace looks the way you want, save it as a named layout.

1. Find the workspace selector in the status bar at the bottom of the screen.

2. Click the Save/Update Workspace button (the save icon) next to the selector.

3. In the Create Workspace dialog, enter a Name for the layout.

4. Click Save as User or Save as Global to choose the scope.

5. The new workspace is selected automatically, and its name appears in the selector.

Switching between workspaces

After you have saved one or more layouts, you can move between them at any time.

1. Click the workspace selector in the status bar.

2. Choose a layout from the list. Each is labeled User or Global so you can tell them apart.

3. DESIGN loads the selected arrangement of panels and tabs.

Updating a workspace

To keep new changes in a workspace you have already saved:

1. Make sure the workspace you want to change is selected in the status bar.

2. Arrange the panels and tabs the way you want them.

3. Click the Save/Update Workspace button.

4. In the dialog, switch the toggle to Update, confirm the name, and click Update. The saved layout now reflects the current arrangement.

Tip: Leave the toggle on Add instead of Update to save the current arrangement as a new workspace without changing the original.

Renaming a workspace

1. Open the workspace selector to view your list of layouts.

2. Click the edit (pencil) icon next to the layout you want to rename.

3. Enter the new name and click Save.

Deleting a workspace

1. Open the workspace selector.

2. Click the delete (trash) icon next to the layout you want to remove.

Deleting a workspace only removes the saved arrangement — it does not affect any of your project data.

Quick checklist

• Arrange panels, tabs, and editors the way you want.

• Click Save/Update Workspace and name the layout.

• Choose User (just you) or Global (whole company).

• Switch, update, rename, or delete workspaces from the status bar selector.
