Saving and Updating Products in the Library

How to save a product to the Products Library, update it later, and use categories to keep your library organized.

The Products Library is your shelf of reusable products. Once you have built and configured a product in a Model Space, you can save it to the library and place it again in any project — no need to rebuild it each time. This article covers saving a product to the library, updating a saved product when it changes, and setting up categories to keep the library organized.

Good to know: Saving a product to the library creates a library product — a reusable template. Placing a library product into a Model Space creates a separate instance. Editing one instance does not change the library product, and updating the library product does not change instances already placed in your projects.

Save a product to the library

Start from a product you have already placed and set up in a Model Space.

1. Right-click the product and choose Save in library.

2. In the Save Product in Library dialog, leave the toggle set to Add to create a new library product.

3. Enter a Name for the product. This is how you will find it in the library, so make it clear and specific.

4. Optionally add a Description to note what the product is for.

5. Click Add. The product now appears in the Products Library, ready to place in any project.

Tip: Give products names you will recognize later, such as Base Cabinet – 2 Door 36in. A good name saves far more time than a description when you are scanning a long library.

Update a product already in the library

When a product design changes, you can push the updated version back to the library so future placements use the new version. Build or adjust the product in a Model Space first, then save over the existing library product.

1. Right-click the product and choose Save in library.

2. In the dialog, switch the toggle to Update.

3. In the Library Product field, select the library product you want to replace.

4. Click Update. The library product now reflects your latest version.

Note: Updating a library product changes the template only. Products you have already placed in your projects keep their current design and are not changed automatically.

Organize the library with categories

Categories are folders that group related products in the Products Library so they are easy to find. The library opens with an All Products view, and you can add your own categories — and nest categories inside others — to match how your shop works.

Create a category

1. In the Products Library panel, click the Add Category (+) button at the top.

2. Enter a Name for the category, and an optional Description.

3. Click Save. The new category appears in the library.

Nest a category inside another

To build a tidy hierarchy — for example a Cabinets category with Base and Wall inside it:

1. Right-click the category you want to nest under and choose Add Category.

2. Name the new category and click Save. It is created inside the category you selected.

Put products into a category

Move a product into a category by dragging its name from the product list onto the category. To take a product back out, drag it onto All Products.

Rename or delete a category

Action

How

What happens

Rename

Right-click the category and choose Edit Category, change the name, then Save.

The category name updates everywhere it appears.

Delete

Right-click the category and choose Delete Category, then confirm.

The category is removed and its products move back to the root (All Products).

Tip: Mark products you place often as Favorites using the star icon. Favorites appear in their own section at the top of the library, so your go-to products are always one click away regardless of category.
