Creating / Importing a Title Block

How to build or import a reusable title block and place it on your sheets.

A title block is the framed border and information block on a drawing — project name, sheet number, date. In ENGINEERING you create it once as an Annotations Library item, then drop it onto any sheet. You can build it by drawing it, or import it from a CAD file.

Good to know: A title block is just a saved group of annotations. However you get those annotations onto the screen — drawing them or importing a CAD file — the final step is the same: select them and save them to the Annotations Library.

Option A — Draw a title block on a sheet

To build a title block from scratch, draw it on a sheet. On a sheet you’re always in annotations mode, so every Draw tool is ready — and you draw at page size, which is exactly what a title block needs.

1. Open a sheet (or create one).

2. Draw your title block directly on the sheet — border lines and text boxes for the labels.

Option B — Import a title block from CAD

If your title block already exists as a CAD drawing, import it into a model space as annotations.

1. Open a model space and set Context to Annotations.

2. Click the Data Exchange button and choose Import Annotations from CAD.

3. Select your .dwg or .dxf file.

4. Review the Imported / Failed results so you know what came in.

5. Click Save to place the imported entities as annotations.

Note: Import works in a model space annotation view. If you see “Import is not possible in this mode,” switch to a plan or elevation view in the annotations context first.

Save it to the Annotations Library

This step is the same whether you drew the title block or imported it.

1. Select all of the title-block annotations.

2. Right-click and choose Save to Library.

3. In the Create Annotation Library Item dialog, enter a Name (and optional description), then click Create.

Good to know: Once saved, the title block appears by name in the Title Block field when you create or edit a sheet.

Add a title block when creating a sheet

1. In the Create Sheet dialog, click the Title Block field.

2. Pick your saved title block from the list.

3. Finish creating the sheet — the title block is placed centered on the page.

Add or change a title block on an existing sheet

1. Open the sheet, then open its Properties panel.

2. Set the Title Block field to your saved item.

3. ENGINEERING replaces any previous title block and centers the new one on the page.

Note: Title blocks come from the Annotations Library. Update the library item to change the design, then re-select it on a sheet to refresh the placed copy.

Quick checklist

• Draw the title block on a sheet, or import it with Data Exchange → Import Annotations from CAD (.dwg / .dxf).

• Select the annotations and Save to Library, giving it a name.

• Choose it in the Title Block field when creating a sheet, or in the sheet’s Properties.

• It is placed centered on the page automatically.
